The Basics Before we get into the techniques, we must define several basics that are a necessity in most of the
techniques listed here. Not all techniques require these basics, but it is necessary to understand when reading them.
KI or CHI: KI is a word that frequently is mentioned in the world of Dragonball. It is the personal life energy
within an individual and plays a very large role in most of the attacks used in Dragonball. Characters use it to fly,
as a source to channel large energy attacks, to "sense" other characters around them and determine their power
level, where they are, their intentions, and if they are hurt or are going to die (this is performed by sensing other
warrior's KI "signatures.") Characters can suppress and increase KI to their capacity (all of the Z warriors
are accustomed to fighting in various KI levels, thus masking their true abilities) and can increase the power of
an attack by simply "KI"ing up (increasing KI power at will) or charging up an attack (the Kamehameha is a
good example of this). Most of the attacks you will see are KI attacks, not physical attacks. Flying (Bukujutsu):
In the beginning of Dragonball, hardly anyone could fly. In fact Goku used Kinton to soar in the air and get to other
places. It was not until DBZ that characters began to normally fly with ease. Almost every character in Dragonball Z
was able to do this. As Son Gohan would put it: "Bukujutsu," the Japanese term, means the art of flying. Flying
is accomplished by using KI energy to levitate and move around the earth. It is a small ingredient in many of the
techniques used in battle. Now that you know the basics we can go on to the actual techniques on the next page.
